Never really got Yo La Tengo till I had a baby and needed to be up with her at 7:00 every day. I mean I went to see them a couple times and everything but it only just clicked now. It’s music to keep you from crying I think?

Casey Kasem no joke one of the greatest, lifelong fighter for justice for Palestine etc
I was listening to an old Casey Kasem American Top 40 (I find this soothing these days) from 1985 where he told the story of Wendy Carlos, who scored The Shining and Tron, and her journey to becoming trans. Casey got all the pronouns right and it was presented as a slice of life, feel good story
Cool tip: it actually takes MORE effort to deliberately misgender someone AND it marks you as a total asshole! Pretty cool!

It is very funny to have logged in here for the first time in several days at this exact moment. I truly had no idea people thought he was dead so the first thing I see being disappointment posts was very confusing

I don’t understand Taylor swift and I don’t like feeling that way. She seems so boring in every possible way it makes me feel like an alien like I’m missing something huge about the world

You don’t have to use quotation marks. Zohran Mandani is a socialist because he organizes to build working class power in opposition to the capitalist class, in order to remake the world into one where the people who make the world go round get to decide how it’s run.
We’re still having discussions about how Zohran Mamdani is a “socialist” because he wants to open one state-run grocery store, meanwhile the US government now controls 10% of Intel. I find this super amusing.

Just put my baby in her carrier and we went into the brambles to pick blackberries and then I mashed them and fed them to her, real hunter gatherer hours around here

This is nauseating
Hurricane Erin went from Category 1 to Category 4 in 15 hours Y'all. That's well beyond our definition of rapid intensification. My update on the hurricane. It may not be done strengthening yet. Where is it going and how strong will it get?

"Not only is everything about DSA so unlike my experience working for Cuomo, it is so disparate from my experience of being abandoned by my own party, the Democratic Party of New York."

Actually… the Dems are just counting on Islamophobia and anti Arab sentiment to align people with their campaign to undermine Mamdani but they’re actually going after him because his success threatens their entire consultancy scam
The Democratic Party leadership does not believe in the legitimacy of their own party’s primary for the largest city in the USA because they’re Islamophobic and anti-Arab racists who believe Mamdani is an illegitimate upstart who was not supposed to win. They are anti-democratic, in short.
Hakeem Jeffries says of Cuomo's attacks on Mamdani for living in a rent controlled apartment: "It's a legitimate issue that has been raised, and the [Mamdani] campaign is going to have to address it."

Yesterday at DSA convention the membership passed this resolution about staff that changes nothing about our current relationship to the org but it’s funny because it claims we have “dozens” of staff but actually we do not have over 24 staffers, the definition of “dozens”

There is no one in this country who is going to start voting for democrats if they perceive them to be anti trans. It isn’t savvy to give ground on that issue, it literally does nothing but alienate trans people and one of the most rapidly radicalizing groups in the country: parents of trans kids

Someday it’s going to be so funny to think about RFK senior and RFK junior and that whole history and just everything about it. I occasionally find myself thinking it’s funny now but then I get sad. But it will just be funny someday I think

Engaging in the incredibly healing activity of having a real vacation at my house with my best friends and their toddler where we’re doing things like “going to the lake” and “eating spaghetti” and “smoking weed after the babies go to bed” and it’s just perfect

Gave my daughter hummus for the first time tonight. Made it like my grandma used to: very lemony. Hard to know that this food has been claimed and profited from by Israelis

The interest in the Epstein files from every part of the political spectrum and the seemingly universal assumption that being in them would lead to consequences for that person is intriguing to me because it’s definitely not because of a universal belief that rape or pedophilia are bad

Deleted my Twitter account after realizing that dude makes money off me being mad about him and also mad at my comrades, which just feels like collective self sabotage

Anyone getting online and calling Zohran a fucking Zionist is just a loser.

I’m at the eye doctor and everyone keeps commenting on how young I am and how they never get anyone as young as me in here. This is great because I’m almost 40 and you just don’t get that kind of treatment that much at this age

Everything is so bad I took a picture of this Bernie sign I saw in the wild in my small town today, and my friend’s 15 year old made fun of me

Crazy that Louisianans elected officials have enthusiastically and wholeheartedly thrown their constituents into this deadly situation. That’s how you know we don’t have a democracy. People would never choose this.

We have had our students in Louisiana for almost 3 weeks now and I want to think through some of the disturbing things we have learned about Louisiana's state of hurricane preparedness generally. No specific source.
@samlmontano.bsky.social correct me if I get something wrong.

This is unfortunately true
Here’s the problem with all the beautiful campaign merch: you can’t walk around with a shirt that says you’re a fan of the mayor. That’s so cucked
June 27, 2025 at 11:58 AM
Losing my mind. New York literally had another DSA member mayor before
I think there’s a decent argument Zohran’s win is the biggest socialists have ever won in American history. Socialists have never governed a city anywhere near the size of New York.

It doesn’t just feel good. It’s a generational opportunity to build social democracy—and show that it works.
