At my wife’s urging, I took one of my dad’s hats while going through his stuff. He was definitely a Hat Person. I am not, generally. But I like the looks of this one. And I guess I do kinda look like dad some.

Not my photo but this is the upper Skagit river near my place. Washed out again. Compound that down the whole system with a lot of additional feeds and yeah I feel for folks in Washington state.

The map looks a bit alarming, but like I said, we have provisions for a bit if needed. That’s me in the middle there.

And now we are cut off. The province just closed all highways between the mainland (Vancouver) and the interior. It’s an “abundance of caution” kind of closure it sounds like.
We are ok for now. Got a few days of rations if we need it. Have not had to send the cats off for supplies.

Coquihalla now closed due to flooding. Which in December sure is something. That /should/ be snow at this point.
I mean the Coq closes if you look at it funny but still noteworthy.

Some localized flooding in the area, but I’m not directly affected. 1 of the 2 highways west to civilization is closed due to a rockslide. Not terrible, but things could change rapidly here. Downstream / south of the border sounds worse at the moment. Lots of water coming off the mountains.

I went for a bit of a mental health walk earlier today. No word on whether it actually helped but it did look very west coast.

Going through dad’s stuff hasn’t been easy, and there’s so much more to go. Hooking up his little Spatley boat to my car to take home really hit me hard though. Lot of memories anchored up off a shoal #flyfishing with him and talking. I really miss that. I’ll have to find folks to go fishing with.

Clouds, trees, waterfalls. Lot of rain of late and it shows. There’s a trail up to the bottom of some of these falls, it’s apparently not difficult. I should wander that way at some point.

Not a great picture but I had to pick something up from fb marketplace down the road from me. I stopped to take a picture of some sheep and got photobombed by the proudest looking sheepdog. So happy.

I went to the local pet store to get some cat litter, and was shown to the selection by an expert employee. His name is Cash because he likes resting by the till. #proofofcat #notmycat

Spotted at the local grocery store, a Berna 2VM converted into an overland camper. I had come across the Berna name before in various historical readings, but I had never seen one in the flesh… er… metal before. Ugly as sin but I can’t help but love it.

Had to go to the tiny local hospital for a blood test today. This was the sign on the door. The hospital is right by a river and all so it makes sense. Likely ok for the ambulatory but think of the poor sod in a wheelchair with an iv pole who goes out for a smoke. Very different scenario.

A picture of dad and I from a couple of years ago on a fishing trip. He was at his best when surrounded by water and nature. It really imparted something to him.

Movers just left. Can’t even say we are settled in. That will be a long time coming with much to do. But I found a chair and took a pic outside. With luck, this new place in Hope (but not Beyond Hope as the old joke goes) is a good one and makes life easier for us.

My dad and I took a day trip to visit an ailing family friend up in Ashcroft today. We took him to a farm cafe in nearby Cache Creek, and saw this orange beast scouting from the fence. He would scout, hop down, slink into the field, pounce, and move on. A working cat, apparently.

Went into the local BC Liquor Store today and saw this on the shelves. A small thing but I guess every little bit counts. Sad, as I like bourbon. It’s my whiskey of choice these days. But I’ve got enough to last. A small thing, but I guess every bit counts.

I walked past the local bookstore here in Chilliwack, and noticed Steinbeck, the store cat, was in the doorway. I was informed he is grumpy today but wants everyone to know he is grumpy, therefore he is being grumpy where everyone can see him. Peak Cat. I did pet him anyway, and he tolerated it.
