I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer

It never gives up, so why do I think I may?

My wife scored/earned this commemorative 'Purple Rain' hoodie and is, as I type, driving out to the after-party for its premiere showing, before it goes to Broadway.

#EditorCoffee! Met @vtuss.bsky.social for the Sundays Cà Phê pop-up at D's Bahn Mi, penultimate pop-up for the season. Amazing coffee, and I got a delicious Vietnamese sandwich to boot.

On a whim, I picked up a box of slider burgers at Fresh Thyme, then some pretzel rolls to go with them. Prepared them yesterday and today (mayo, Sriracha ketchup, greens, dill pickles, Muenster) and I'm enamored of them.

Finally finished meditating on Gebo "gift," what gifts I have, who does and doesn't want them, and what I'm getting out of all this.

Next up, Wunjo "joy." Oh boy. Examining joy in my life? in this life?

We used to say the only thing harder-core than being straightedge was being an optimist.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Nobody told me I could support censorship and misinformation for the low-low price of $14/month!

You can't use YouTube unless you have an active Google account, and if you go to another country, you have to purchase another subscription.

You use VPN to protect yourself, many services simply shut down and deny you even your paid subscription.

Use ad blockers to protect yourself, most news outlets won't let you read a word. Even huge outlets claim to be "indie" and need your support.

The internet is increasingly hostile to users.

Witnessed a modern rewrite of Ibsen's 'A Doll's House' @guthrietheater.bsky.social. Great cast, quite the indictment of social preciousness. Couldn't help sensing more than a little modernity creeping into the plot, I'll have to read the original to be sure.

I know "a fool and his money are soon parted," but at some point you start to feel a little paternalistic for the idiot who falls for this one. And they will.

Related to mid-1800s American slang, "I don't give a continental," Lord Peter Wimsey whips this out in a heated moment in 'Unnatural Death,' 1927.

I'm left wondering which continent this concerns, and what was the nature of the regional curse.

I wondered why the fashion in these cartoons hasn't moved past 1968. Given that Henry Boltinoff died in 2001, I'm guessing King Features Syndicate is simply republishing his back catalog.

I was writing at my computer when I swear I heard Bella chirp, one of her questioning little "brrrt"s when she entered a room, an inquiry into what I'm doing and whether my lap is occupied.

I had her put down in June 2024 due to cancer in her jaw, but to this day she is still very alive to me.

Dating myself with the way I hold a camera. The oldsters who grew up with TV and movies take a horizontal shot, whereas the youngsters who grew up on cell phones take vertical shots.

Anyway, I saw Wardruna tonight and they were fucking amazing.

Back up to my old tricks: #BreakfastSandwich time again.

This time, the key ingredient is the brioche slider bun. Never tried that before, and I'm tempted to never do without again.

These are two separate sandwiches. I intend to make several more.

My wife said, "How's that sausage? I won't try it unless you roll your eyes and moan."

She took my closed eyes and cessation of breath as approval.

Yes, this "farmer's sausage" is the original 1890 recipe. I've rarely had anything as good. #grilling #1890Meats

I could've put in a little more effort to match the font, but I'm technically at work.

For shits and giggles, I thought I'd try to peek into my 15-year-old #iPod Touch (3rd gen) to see what I was listening to while backpacking around SE Asia.

Of course #Apple prohibits this: requires an #iTunes update, locked out of updating, absolutely no support. Because Apple.

Had a great time at the State Fair yesterday. Long day of it: showed up around 1 pm, didn't leave until we saw Los Lobos play at 8:30 pm. Thank gods for the motorcycle parking: cheaper, plentiful, easier to get to (and out of).

The soft-serve beer was everything that was promised, and more.

Rebecca wanted me to demonstrate how I breathe a dying fire into life. Strangely, Bluesky mirror-reversed the video for no reason I can understand.
