Las Vegas: A Ride on Elon's "Vegas Loop" Did Not Change My Mind — Human Transit
Eight years ago, I experienced 10 seconds of Elon Musk’s attention.  The occasion was my criticism of his idea, now being implemented by his Boring Company, that the future of urban transportation was...

Man, reading about The Loop was a deep-dive I did not want to participate in. I'm certainly skeptical about its practicality and its ownership - but at least it's *something* and at least Vegas isn't being burdened with the majority of the cost.

Thank you for introducing me to the 'Progress Playbook'!

Per the Scouts:
"Scouting is and has always been a nonpartisan organization.... focusing on our common goal of building future leaders grounded in integrity, responsibility, and community service."

Ah, there in lies the problem - incompatible goals with SecDef.

Factor in people driving absurdly monsterous trucks and the math maths.

Depends on where people live. When I worked in the Central Valley, majority of my neighbors would commute 5 days a week to the Bay - 180 miles a day.

At my current workplace, about 1/3 come from Albuquerque (to Los Alamos) - 200mi per day.

38k mi/yr just to work.

One of my favorites - such incredible beauty and violence in a small package. We had impaled grasshoppers and lizards near my workplace and two very territorial Shrikes nearby. At least one finch met its fate as well (but not impaled).

They're such cute little jerks, but at least their schedules don't completely overlap with the Anna's. The last of our Rufous left northern NM early last month.

Same for us - we are fortunate that our situation allows for it. The eBikes are a game changer for sure - especially for workplaces that don't have showers (my coworkers did not appreciate full-exertion Wiley).

Oh boy am I! Great namesake for a northern research/CG vessel!

On that note, if you're looking for some fictionalized horror of the Terror, I highly recommend the book from Dan Simmons, as long as you can overlook his weird fetishization of native women.

Additionally, this would be another deathblow to the PFAS remediation of Holloman Lake, which is one of the most contaminated sites in the US. New Mexico has been battling the DoD for years to get remediation funding.

Extremely concerning for the state of New Mexico, where 90+% of our streams are ephemeral, and groundwater pollution from O&NG and farming is a real community concern.

Oooh, Big Sur or somewhere in Oregon?
Fabulous so far!

Absolutely stunning media! Matt's stream of experience writing was perfect - succinct and makes me itchy for another trip!

Great personal photos and the SF link has some STUNNING media that I haven't come across before - certainly blow my shots out of the water.
Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic data, thank you for sharing!
Infrastructure/Utilities has been my siren call for the last two decades and I've never regretted bringing more peeps into the industry.
For what still exists of the middle class, these careers can absolutely provide a stable means to reach it.

Reminds me of this drivel from Bill Donahue. Of course, little surprise there.
