not sure this is quite what you mean, but I had two conferences this month and got energy from both of them. Some combination of intellectual exchange and hearing my (imposter syndrome) self sound smart in conversation? Being exposed to new ideas is fun!

Great piece, thanks for sharing! As a fellow MN I felt Marge leaving the eggs was a commentary on the care we deny ourselves, but your read helps me understand why her character is pregnant during the movie—she’s in a liminal state re: motherhood and her future likewise could go a different way

Howl’s Moving Castle is so, so good; it stands on its own as source material but also helps you understand and appreciate the movie better, including the choices the filmmakers made to simplify the story. The rare case where the movie and the book makes you like each of them more

It feels like “Trump will make IVF free” levels of feigned credulousness. A tossed-off comment that everyone knows isn’t serious and won’t happen, which the media nevertheless elevates to make someone everyone hates appear reasonable

I feel like a lot of it is about performing masculinity for men and creating anxiety around masculinity in men. My wife was telling me about a study where they had men and women look at before/after pictures of guys who got ripped--men preferred the ripped "after" and women preferred the "before"
