I mostly do music. But, as sound doesn't move in a vacuum, I read, think, and write about other things as well.

Thanks for the sitrep! It's helpful for folks watching from afar, who don't always know the local dynamics.

She is in the current, 2026, senate class. (And oddly, outlets that track projected race outcomes, like 270towin, seem to think that seat is secure.) So if there were ever a time to capitalize on a bonehead comment, now would be it. I hope any challengers are watching. . .

The picture worth 1000 words though, right? ;)

Indeed, thank you! As you saw, I got the memo from the excellent @sailorrooscout.bsky.social who always has great info on vax research and related. . .

This awful proposal would remove my access--bad for me; worse for my family. As my own posts are few and scarcely seen, I shamelessly reply-bomb.

No kidding! And just 3 days left to submit comments on the proposal (which can be anonymous, if folks want).

I've read a few; plenty of anti-vax folks writing in to demand complete removal, so sending even a basic "vaccines are for everyone" helps!

Public comments are open for a whopping 3 more days(!) Here's the link: www.regulations.gov/commenton/FD...

No need to select a category. Comments can be anonymous if you want. Takes less than a minute to send a statement that vaccines should be available to everyone.

Keep spreading the word!

Yeah that headline is something special. Seems to be an increasing trend for headlines to tell a different story than the articles do, as well.

I would be *so very alarmed* to receive a text like that.

As @scalzi.com has said, "the failure mode of clever is asshole." Congrats to these members on their excellent demonstration of the principle?

In the next six weeks, there are nearly a dozen elections in Maryland jurisdictions alone: besides the upcoming June 3 special to fill Senator Alsobrooks' former seat as Prince George's County Executive (and a vacant council seat too!) there are TEN municipal elections in the first half of May. 2/

Without diminishing the accuracy or weight of anything you've said here, this was still my very first thought:

Jackie did a post on this at Rocker Skating; also an IG video but I don't have IG so couldn't watch all of it. Post mentions host spots, and part of the vid that I did see mentioned athletes qualifying just for team event (at Beijing). . . Could either of these scenarios be spot #30?
March 26, 2025 at 5:59 PM
I think #30 is the spot that will be qualified at the Beijing qualifying event?

An A+ Granddad story for sure. When I was in 3rd grade, we had granddads who'd visit our classrooms to talk about the numbers tattooed on their arms, which was a whole different experience of that story type, for a whole different audience.

Your granddad telling you was an absolute cut above.

I'm pretty sure "Put Your Big Toe. . ." first appeared on a Rob Wasserman album (Trios) in the earlyish '90s. It was probably teenage-me's intro to Elvis Costello, other than vague awareness of "Alison."

I hear ya on mood of the day. Weird how there's a lot of fitting music -- or maybe not ;-)

And here my go-to Elvis Costello tune has always been "Put Your Big Toe In The Milk Of Human Kindness." Can't ever say he's got no range. . .
