I mostly do music. But, as sound doesn't move in a vacuum, I read, think, and write about other things as well.
This is important guys; please do this. Please do it by May 23. You can comment anonymously. No need to select a category. You can forward the link to others.

It takes less than a minute to send a basic response that vaccines should be available to everyone. We only have 3 days to be heard here.

Still bad at social media (although my Bluesky experience has been above average for both utility and vibes), but for the half-dozen folks who'll see this I offer my extreme vigilance about local election schedules: why wait for midterms when there may be an imminent voting opportunity near you? 1/
I am not good at social media, as my fed-up factor for banal-to-toxic content often outweighs any benefit I perceive from interacting on a given platform. But I will try to make my li'l corner of sky one where folks can find true, helpful, even soul-nourishing things (when I remember to post them).

I almost forgot about Rachmaninoff's birthday -- but I still can say: "Thundering windows of hell, will your tubes ever break into powder?"

(Or rather, I quote Frank O'Hara in celebration.)

This *entire* thread is "Very Important For You To Know." Teach the children.

Also, Kat's granddad was a hero, and he helped Kat be one too.
Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences.

AKA That Time Kat Started An Antifascist Hallway Riot In The Third Grade.

Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives. . .

(House is recessed until Feb24; a "district work period." Hit them up in their local offices. Shake hands and tell them what a shitty plan this is.)
There is no ACA repeal debate this year. But, the health spending cuts envisioned in the House budget resolution could exceed the reductions in 2017 ACA repeal and replace plans from Republicans.

Congressional Dems could study this. See how it polls and all.
The interim US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, a FedSoc member and former Scalia clerk, has done more to publicly expose the corruption of the Trump administration this week at greater personal cost than any elected official I can think of.

We've had years of masterclass in obstruction from GOP congress, not to mention Trump himself.

That Senate Dems won't run that playbook means either they don't think it's important to slow the damage, or they're more afraid of what happens if they do.

Both views are incorrect.
What baffles me isn’t that Democrats can count to 51 and know they can’t actually stop Trump’s nominees.

What baffles me is that they seem to sincerely think that to their voters “we couldn’t stop it” and “we unanimously consented to it” are synonymous because the end result is the same.

I'd hoped to play this (relevant) tune last night, but pulled it from my set when I realized I'd never get through it without choking up.

I had friends who did not live to see the day Elon Musk cancelled trials for *an HIV vaccine.* There’s a lot to be upset about right now, but this gives me stone cold rage.
Mind-boggling wreckage. Among the lifesaving programs now disrupted by Elon’s attack on @USAID: phase 1 trials for a possible HIV vaccine.

Also, spiking the narrative with toxic opinion AHEAD of NTSB findings is not only thin cover for moves (like forcing out the FAA head on Jan20) that make air travel broadly less safe, it also insults people who suffered direct loss:

Many of the passengers were child athletes, parents and coaches.

I know trolls wanna go where the heat is, but I'm a bit surprised it found me so fast.

I love that the block-button apparently works well here -- but I wish I could detach that creepy "follow" as well

This seems just like when Wile E. Coyote's schemes backfire on him.

Also, fun: I'm seeing folks say that the same law protects access to trans care in WY, and that makes sense.
BIG NEWS: A Wyoming judge just struck down WY's abortion bans.

And get this: The judge invoked a constitutional amendment codifying a right to make health care decisions... that was passed in 2012 by conservatives who thought it'd screw Obamacare! Just backfired.

We explained this lawsuit here:
How Attacks Against Obamacare Turned Into Tools to Protect Abortion Access
Conservatives amended state constitutions to affirm broad rights for people to choose their health care. Now abortion rights proponents are taking them at their word.

This thread. (Because we apparently live in a timeline where Mr. Rogers, Mr. Sulu, and Ms. Frizzle will be our guides out of the dark.)
I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.

I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/

I have also had this exact thought.
This is actually the perfect time for an earnest, sign language filled anti-Fascism program. You're a good man, Lukas #FinlandiaTrophy
