Headed for #smmw25 first thing. I always take the first flight out - less turbulence (because cooler air has fewer turbulent currents) and fewer delays and cancellations since cascades of errors haven’t piled up yet. Does it mean getting up punishingly early? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes.

My weekly groceries for a family of four. Normally between 160-180. This week, without much difference in what I buy week to week: 220.

Tariffs in effect. Are we great again yet?

OpenAI likely to announce GPT-4.5 today. Expect everything to break! (they're notorious for completely underestimating demand, so ChatGPT is highly likely to be utterly useless for the next couple of days because OpenAI never learns its lesson.)

Also, for people who are so anti-trans, anti-gender fluidity, anti-everything cis/het, clearly no one QAd the actual video.

Goodness, I wonder what institutional investors see? Oh wait, the same thing as everyone else. President Musk and VP Trump are burning everything down and the smart money is bailing out.

How safe is flying? Here's a chart of aviation crashes and accidents since 2020. On average, there are 0.0022% accidents per month. You are three times as likely to get in an accident on the way to the airport.

Data source: AVHerald.com filtered to crashes and accidents.

Everything makes more sense when you view it through the lens of greed and grift.

Archive.org also has a Torrent set up for this. If you have the bandwidth, consider joining in to help others download it faster by seeding it.

5 year anniversary of these posts and… we’re back here again, except this time it’s H5N1 instead of SARS-CoV-2 and we’re working really hard to pretend it’s not there.

Finished setting up automated content in the other places. People are training AI on content from X/Meta, so best to give it good content to train on rather than leave entirely, else our AI models will slowly become Nazi hellholes too.

If you want to see the power of #AI, watch a tool like Cursor or Cline debug code. It's NUTS.

Something #AI image and video generation has a remarkably hard time with despite TONS of reference material: making espresso. The portafilters are never correct, and the logical flow is always wrong. I don't know why.

ChatGPT Pro launches at $200/month for unlimited access to o1. This is unsurprising given how costly o1 is to operate. o1 Preview is way more costly than anything else OpenAI costs. I can only imaging what o1 will cost in fully operational mode.

I just use the built in voice memos app on the iPhone. It dumps out m4a files that sync to my desktop, and then I toss those to the Whisper.cpp model using distil-whisper v3 Large. There's a one-click zsh script that processes it all.
