you can always cut it way ahead of where you need it, try on, mark on your body, cut again and hem:) I mess around with my clothes a LOT so I get the apprehension 😭

You could seam rip it instead of cutting it off, if the seam sits nicely on your shoulder! That way if you mess it up you can literally just reattach the sleeve:)
