A recent close interaction between these two galaxies distored the shapes of thier disks and triggered a burst of star formation, seen in the blue clusters of hot, young stars.

Two distorted, face-on spiral galaxies. The top galaxy has two long, thin spiral arms that make a backwards S shape filled mostly with older yellow stars. The end of the top spiral arm forks in two. The galaxy is dotted with blue star clusters that splash around the more well-defined arms. The bottom galaxy is more compact, but also has a bar and two spiral arms that form a backwards S shape. The center of the galaxy is filled with whitish stars, while the ends of the spiral arms are dotted with blue star clusters. Surrounding the center of the bottom galaxy is a roughly circular haze of yellow stars. To the right are two wide arcs, also made of a haze of yellow stars. Overlapping this is a horizontal, clumpy line of blue star clusters, connecting from the galaxy to the end of the second arc.
