At this point these companies should just apply for tax-exempt status as religious charities.

If we have to build our government out of quirky celebrities from now on we could do a lot worse than Bill Nye.

The fact that Vanity Fair offered her a prominent editorial position AFTER learning about her unethical behavior is absolutely a commentary on the state of journalism.

People have been calling out Nuzzi for years to no avail, and even after the RFK relationship was first revealed far too many of her colleagues took up defending her. Then there’s the Vanity Fair job which is just an objectively crazy decision. A media this rotten this will never protect the public.

I’ve yet to hear anyone explain how what she did introduced a real conflict of interest. It was a disqualification based on the thinnest of pretexts, and focusing on her judgment misses the forest of the trees: but for this pretext they would have found another, because the substance didn't matter.

I bet you’d get the same reaction to posts for and against sports gambling. These are technologies that prey on avarice and envy and erode social bonds, while enriching some of the worst people our society has to offer. What’s not to like?

If you see the incentives of the billionaires guiding social media as toxic both to individuals and to society, as I do, then you are very likely to react the same way to LLM’s, where the incentives are, if possible, even worse.

I hated the Twitter algorithm when I was there—I exclusively used a third-party client that gave me an ad-free chronological feed (until they killed 3P clients). I’m also just not that moved by FOMO. I suspect these traits correlate strongly to both switching to BlueSky and to strong AI-skepticism.

The “looking beyond Trump” idea is hilarious. They didn’t find Trump, he barged in and took over their party, very much against many Republicans’ wishes! Do they really think they have any control over what happens next?

The last line of the video is the most telling though. He’s describing a future of zero human agency, of pure consumption, that no one would find fulfilling, least of all *him*.

I don’t think this man has the slightest concept of what would make HIM happy, much less other people.

Yes, this is the obligatory (often self-hating) “Democrats are the party of the college-educated” sneer. We’re all effete, book-smart nerds who have never had dirt under our nails and so don’t understand “real” America. It goes hand-in-hand with the “schools think of boys as defective girls” trope.

I mean, how many reliable left-wing megadonors can you name vs. right-wing megadonors? The incentives speak for themselves.
November 24, 2025 at 1:35 AM
My sense is that supporting Democrats and left-wingers just isn’t nearly as profitable across lots of potential profit-making domains. I think this point really gets lost in a lot of the discussions over how Democrats/the left need to counter the right.
