Day 20

A song with a name in the title

I’m going with this track from The Fall called Bill is Dead.

This was played on 6 Music on that terrible day in January 2018 when the premature death of Mark Edward Smith at the age of 60 was announced.

Sadly missed.

“If anything in this life is certain.
If history has taught us anything.

It’s that you can kill anyone.”

Michael Corleone discussing the assassination of Hyman Roth in The Godfather Part 2.

#FOOTBALL POST

Great result for #BristolCity against #Middlesbrough today. Boro are a very good side, so to beat them 2-0 with a squad currently in the grip of another injury crisis was a great result.

It’s been a good 2025 for City, all things considered, so here’s hoping that continues in 2026!

Had the weirdest dream last night.

Involved me making a documentary about a famous old pub but discovered that the house next door was being used to make porn films so I started to make a documentary about that instead.

I remember having a long conversation with a cat who spoke perfect English.

DO NOT SEND HELP, I AM HAPPY HERE.

Thank you.

Day 18
A song with air, fire, water or earth in the title

One of the first songs I ever remember really really really liking, as a young boy.

The Hollies
The air that I breathe

What a song. Genuinely, what a fucking song!

Here are my favourite 15 Dexys / Dexys Midnight Runners / Kevin Rowland tracks. Hope you enjoyed them, particularly if you weren’t previously familiar with Kevin Rowland’s solo material.

By the way, I don’t mind Come on Eileen, but it certainly isn’t in my top 15.

Number 1

Dexys Midnight Runners

Until I Believe in my Soul

For me, this is the ultimate Dexys song.

Passionate vocals, with lyrics focussed on cleansing the soul and becoming a better person, with fabulous music underpinning everything.

Sheer perfection. 😍😎

Second entry in todays’s #jonesysjukebox is my attempt at feeling festive. I’m not really a big fan of Christmas but I’ve always had a soft spot for this record.

The Waitresses and Christmas Wrapping.

It’s the return of #jonesysjukebox despite literally no interest being shown by anybody other than me.

Here’s some 80s disco, inspired by a conversation I had earlier about Patrick Cowley.

Sylvester & Patrick Cowley - Do you wanna funk?

I imagine they actually wanted to ask “do you wanna fuck?”
