And yes I am going to try to get a doctor's note for it at some point. There's just so much medical stuff on my to do list and no way to do it all at once. (Which btw I have an article coming out tomorrow that's partly about this! Accidental plug lol)

The white & classist oppression of many "COVID-cautious" people also helped push a mask bloc cofounder into houselessness. It's been almost a year & things haven't improved.

They could use financial support ($ app: $PoetJaleane) if you're willing to share.

The Black, trans, disabled cofounder of a mask bloc is houseless & isolated. They've been sleeping in freezing cold for over a week & are running out of options.

Below is a link to a non-amazon wishlist that also has methods for donating $. Are you willing to share/boost?

I've also testified at a bunch of City Council hearings and I really have no idea how that's been received. The hearings are long (sometimes more than 6 hours!) and by the time they get to public testimony, the decision makers have left a lot of the time.

In my experience, looking beyond long covid, social services are just not actually designed to care what happens to anybody. They're designed to refer you onward so that you can be someone else's problem. So these administrators are not very interested in hearing about structural problems.

Sorry, had to think about this because I don't even know besides "aaaaa, frustration" lol. I'm mostly interacting with social services and Medicaid administrators, who just don't listen well in general, *and* fundamentally don't care about disability or long covid.

I am really trying, for what it's worth. Have not had a lot of luck so far.

We need actual monetary solutions (cash, housing vouchers), not a system that willfully looks the other way and artificially deflates its statistics by only counting people who are in shelters.

States Should Fund Rental Assistance as a Frontline Strategy to Address the Housing Affordability Crisis
Rental assistance is a key policy intervention that state policymakers should add to their toolbox to address housing affordability at scale.

As a housing organizer, I'm also frustrated at how often the idea of "moving in with friends" (or strangers) is put forward as some sort of alternative to needing or entering a shelter. I did this in 2020 and just ended up homeless again. @sndesireecha.bsky.social did it and was subjected to DV.

Maybe I'm riffing too far off topic here, but I believe it's all connected. The absolute lack of concern from the covid cautious community when it comes to homelessness will haunt me forever.

And "rescue" is not concern, by the way. Rescue too often becomes abuse.

These are the people who are more morally affronted that a hospital makes you take your mask down at security than that the same hospital is starving someone or locking them up in psych. They care about nosocomial covid but not about nosocomial sepsis, which can kill people with long covid.
December 6, 2025 at 4:12 PM
They look at covid safety as a thing you can buy, or lobby institutions for. And they want it so that they can protect themselves and their allies from becoming like us.

They're the same people who think if you have rights under the ADA, you just have to ask for them with the right tone of voice.
