On this day in 1931, Robert MacNeil was born in Montreal. After growing up in Halifax, he became a journalist and news anchor. He hosted The Robert MacNeil Report (now PBS NewsHour) from 1975 to 1995. He received an Emmy and the Order of Canada. He died in 2024.

It’s cold and I’ve been on my belly for hours with my Nikon and wide-angle lens hoping to catch an emperor fly like missile from the sea.
Although I can barely feel my fingers, I couldn’t be happier. My heart is singing and I can’t help but smile.
