Pragmatic, progressive resident of the anarchist jurisdiction of Seattle for 15+ years. Urban transportation policy wonk and civics nerd. There's only one rule that I know of — “God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Between this, Congress passing the same funding compromise already passed by the Senate, and Trump being named in Epstein's emails, today seems like a big news day for confirming things that everyone already knew.

Well, technically Seattle Municipal Court Judge Willie Gregory is now Seattle's longest serving elected official (going on 15 years).

She's their boss. But in the end, even "Mike Bikes" McGinn agreed to be driven most of the time.

This still doesn't completely explain it, but there do seem to be a little over 3k people who turned in a ballot but skipped voting in the mayor's race.

New ballots are delivered in the mail each day. USPS is running slower than usual due to the government shutdown and ballots dropped in the mailbox on election day probably haven't been delivered yet.

There's actually 4 existing grocery stores: Amazon Fresh, Sprout, US Foods Chefstore, and Asian Family Market.

(I'm not taking their side. Bring on the WinCo as far as I'm concerned.)

Why not just run the light rail overnight? Or if that's not possible due to maintenance needs or whatever, why not have a bus route that serves all the First Hill hospitals?

I disagree. For example, each of the council members have a unique way of expressing their thoughts and formulating a sentence, but Rob Saka has a VERY UNIQUE way of expressing his thoughts and formulating a sentence.

Hear me out... If it doesn't come with any real power, then Saka would result in the funniest puppet videos.

Debora Juarez is the most senior. In Jan 2026 she'll have 8.5 years on the council including 2 as president, Strauss will have 6 years, and Kettle will have 2 years experience. Or are appointed members ineligible (or does she just not want it)?

The "corner" in this case is metaphorical, at the intersection of byzantine zoning code and asinine liquor license laws. If a business serves pizza & sandwiches then I should be able to take my kids inside and they should be able to operate where their customers live.

I'll bet that a lot of the time it's because they're still debating policy details or waiting for final approval from the Mayor's office up until the very last second before the announcement.

I try really hard to understand the logic of perspectives I disagree with. But no matter how hard I try, I just don't get why anyone would be opposed to the idea of being able to walk to a good restaurant, bakery, coffee shop, or ice cream parlor.

@seattledot.bsky.social says routes with orange labels #1-7 will all get better bike lanes this year (#8-15 are in design and blue dots are already done). Most of the places are getting concrete barriers. I saw them working on #5 last week (Banner Way NE between Banner Pl and NE 77th).

PSA - Practically everyone in WA can access the Seattle Times for free through their library. Go to your local branch's website and check "online resources" for a link (if they don't have, you don't have to live in Seattle to get a Seattle Library card). ezproxy.spl.org/login?url=ht...

Could you show them your library card and explain that it comes with free access to the Seattle Times? ezproxy.spl.org/login?url=ht...

He failed to remove the median, despite it being his #1 priority. Curby cannot be defeated!

Hmm... There's nothing about this in the Park Rules. The section about keeping off equipment is identical to the Seattle Center's Park Rules where playing in the fountain is allowed.

This is the photo they put in the 90% design document on their website.

And you'll be shocked, shocked to hear that the transition to the Trump administration did not help speed things up. If anything, it seems like a minor miracle that the city was able to figure out a path forward with these projects at all.

Well, it took me more than a week to get the answer to this, but over 75% of Seattle's 2023 Safe Streets for All grant has yet to be obligated and is in major jeopardy of being pulled back by the USDOT. That's nearly $20M for street upgrades that could vanish.
