I’m a Gen X father of two who grew up in Alaska, and lives in North Carolina.

My super power is making mixes and playlists. I try to inspire people to cook and bake. I also like bikes, boards, boats, booze, and alliteration.
Family group chats are best when your daughter in Asheville and your parents in Anchorage are sharing pictures of the aurora last night.

More 8 packs of 8 oz cans, and less 4 packs of 16oz cans. Pretty please!

It feels good to celebrate some positive results happening in cities and states across the country. We could use a little more hope right now

Excited verbally recorded text conversations with my son about The Lost Boys. Both my kids are in college and I love them and they love me. With all my fucking faults.

When you host in-laws…you get by by day drinking. Boulevardier with a kiss of Fernet and some house made orange bitters.

After this week, this is the message that I felt like I needed to share with my kids.

I got a Lego Tuxedo Cat for a birthday from my kids that looks like one of our cats. Oscar isn’t having any of it.

Working on the Not Cool With ICE/E project has been eye opening. People all over are either interested in a short, or just to talk about ICE in the community and the damage it is doing. Keep talking and protesting. Don’t let it become normalized!

For all you gluten free bakers out there, this King Arthur flour does pretty good work. If you have other flours then maybe it’s really no better than Katarina Cermelj’s (aka The Loopy Whisk) recipe in Baked to Perfection, but it’s a good alternative.

My wife is trying to convince me that if our house was empty, and there was a giant box in it, I would climb in it to feel cozy like our cats. I’m not sure that she is correct, but it’s a cute image

I worked with local screen printing company and made some Not Cool With Ice themed shirts.

I’m 51 years old and still baking treats to celebrate my kids first day of school. They’re both in college. I usually would make pies, but it’s lemon bars and coconut meringue cookies. Side note: the Cooks Illustrated/ ATK lemon bars recipe is unrivaled and I will die on this hill.

I have a coworker from El Salvador that shared some papusas with me, so when I was making tamales yesterday I brought one for him to try. He paid me the biggest compliment by first calling his wife and letting her know I brought some, and then asked where I bought them? I Blew. His. Mind.

Just finished All Systems Red by Martha Wells. Perfect example of how less can be more. Great fun read that would be perfect for the beach.
