Fox in Melee is a great example where the character is over represented, but not so much at the top level of play. He is the strongest, but the real reason he's so popular is because he feels great to play in the systems of Melee.

I know that some devs like Riot look at pick rate as a factor for balance, and like, yeah pick rate might indicate a character being too strong, or it might just indicate a character being fun, and you gotta figure out which it is.

I think this might be the end of Scathighs' posting career, it doesn't get better than this

Anyway the real issue is that "search-action" and "learn-action" just feel awful to say. If people are serious about changing the terminology, they should go with something like "action-exploration" that sound more natural to say.

Most genres are defined based on some expectation of foreknowledge, try explaining what a CRPG or a JRPG is to someone without knowledge of the genres, and without referencing previous works. It's hard to get a genre line as clean as FPS because most genres aren't defined by a camera perspective.

This of course relates to my existing dislike of "search-action" which is a way worse genre label than the label it's try to replace

Sorry but you will never catch me calling games "learn-action". Especially since the stuff in that part of the chart is the only stuff I would actually feel good calling a "metroidbrania"

I played the PC port of MGS1 Integral recently, and while it does have some problems (like most of the gimmicks from psycho mantis fight not being present) it does have a version of first-person aiming that breaks the game way less than Twin Snakes did

Imagine if they remade High and Low today and all the shots like this were in color but you couldn't see anything in the reflection of his glasses, but people were talking about how it looks better cause it's in color and the old B&W just made the film too inaccessible.

I realize this sort of exists, but the nature of remaking a movie means that you rarely get actual shot-for-shot remakes, and it usually ends up being a different movie with the same name.

I'd been seeing art of Yoko from Gurren Lagan for over a decade before I learned she's supposed to be 14 and I was like HUH

Tracked down the original post to see their bio to see what kind of person would post this (because I hate myself) and the first thing in their bio is 'whovian' before any other personal information like 'dad'. Checks out.

The thing that gets me about this is that it looks like gameplay but nothing ever actually happens. They shoot at things like there's something to shoot at, but nobody ever gets shot. It's just a sequence of things happening that look vaguely like a game.
