Maaaaaan, I never had gumbo 5x a week!

Not even leftovers!..
February 10, 2026 at 6:18 AM
I hope not... if it leaves my phone it's not a ¥^}%! draft, is it?
February 10, 2026 at 6:04 AM
Yes, and yes.

I miss old Cooper's, the food and the building, but there's not much to do about that now.

...Sam Jones had a pit out by Greenville before he built one in Raleigh. His family runs Skylight Inn, I think he helped with that while it was still his dad's, too.
February 10, 2026 at 5:45 AM
Trust me, Sam Jones is both good and real, and @natejohnson.org will back me up on this!

OTBBQ is still what and where it is.

Clyde Cooper's... I think the lady who owns it now is feuding with Raleigh. She apparently moved it up by Millbrook Rd(!). It's a whole dramatic thing...

The ai bot that probably made the commercial never got sand in its shoes, ijs
February 10, 2026 at 5:07 AM
Rats, and I'm left hoping for an excuse to make a pot of gumbo. ( :
February 10, 2026 at 5:03 AM
If you wanna learn to make gumbo, @vathpela.uncooperative.org , come on back down and I'll fire up the kettle.

If you want a recipe instead of a braindump, try @sazeracla.bsky.social 's—I make the gumbo I make, but some of his other recipes are mighty fine and I figure he knows of what he speaks( :

It's one of those "might be technically correct in some sense, but misses the point enough that one wonders if the writer understands" moments

Glad there are some good humans around, not just the monsters.
February 10, 2026 at 2:31 AM
Maybe it's not Artemis; I will readily admit that was speculation.

It may have more to do with whatever is going in that SpaceX/xAI IPO.

Or did you have a different idea what might've caused a change in course?
February 10, 2026 at 1:34 AM
Isaacman would probably be just as happy to support one billionaire's spaceship company as another… I am willing to give SpaceX a lot of credit for being experienced and reliable on the operational side, tho I might have a great deal less trust in anything starship derived

..........nobody here said they're never going, but he just used the most basic feature of the required transfer orbit as an excuse for why his company is suddenly "focusing" on the thing people are actually paying them to do, instead of magic unicorn trajectories for starships full of colonists

I hate how "IQ" and "genius" are treated these days. I don't care if he's a genius in some sense, he's clearly not competent at this
February 10, 2026 at 12:54 AM
Probably only eats at him when somebody drags him out of the k hole and brings it up.

I'm suspecting this has something to do with NASA being willing to entertain other bids for the lunar lander as of fairly recently, but what do I know...

It's been less than twenty years away for at least twenty years in his narrative I think, so at one point, yes...?
