Trying to talk myself down from the ledge of Getting Into It with a "plot consultant" who insists their use of AI images in their marketing is all fine and good, actually, because they wouldn't pay money for art or design anyway.

I feel like there are, oh, probably at least half a dozen or so Science Fiction, Fantasy, and/or Horror stories out there about how this is a less than great idea.

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

I'm reading this one right now, as it happens, and it is unlike anything else I've ever come across. Highly recommended! Do it up!

"We have it as an ultimate tool of accountability if a politician does something absolutely egregious, illegal, grossly unethical."

Illegal may be for legislators and courts to decide, but egregious and unethical are up to the people. A decision is being made in real time. Buckle up!

I don’t know how many times we’re gonna have to say this, but, “People with disabilities need AI to create!” is the dumbest, most ableist thing you can say and please fucking stop.

Danielle Smith (like Jason Kenney before her) courted Alberta's separatist bloc and holds her position as UCP leader at their whim. The UCP has tacitly legitimized and given a plank to their bleating. Separatism defines this party to many Albertans

It has become absolutely impossible to find colouring books (for any age range) online that are not wall-to-wall AI slop.

Author pals, here's yet another reason to insist on a No-GenAI clause in your contracts: your work may be disqualified from awards if your publisher slaps an AI cover on your book.

In this case, it seems like the publisher didn't know the "designers" they hired used AI in their "process." Still...
What an appalling choice by the publisher to submit gen AI covers for their authors' books to a CONTEST, and I'm glad the awards pushed back against the use of gen AI and disqualified them. Heartbroken for the authors who didn't know, though.

Someone asked me recently if I hear a voice in my head while I'm writing. I do, but it's not my own. Depending on what I'm working on, my internal narrator when I'm writing usually sounds like either David Tennant or Stanley Tucci.

Better, makes it personal.

"Jane clutched her flimsy jacket, pulling it tight around her shivering shoulders. Her breath had frozen her scarf solid. Frosted wool scratched her chin."

Cool, I guess, but a Nazi's still a Nazi.

If I were a more popular/profitable writer, I would commission art of all my characters and have them printed up like 1980s trading cards, then seal them in wax packs to give away at readings and events.

Anyway...
