I found a Shogi set with the moves on the pieces in the Steam Workshop, mostly to help me. I want to see how this'll go before I get it into the game.

I think I just need to do the thing instead of worrying about it.
To that end, I've done what I should always do: just give a pawn a silly hat and called it a new piece.

Fixed up the Kakugyo. This is probably the better design. Making a proper gohei with the shogi tile as a topper feels much better. The Eboshi's been modified, too.
I'm tempted to put the bishop notch into the hat here, to further establish "I move diagonal" but I'll let that sit for a bit.

Fixed up the Kakugyo. This is probably the better design. Making a proper gohei with the shogi tile as a topper feels much better. The Eboshi's been modified, too.

The Kakugyo is done!
It was actually a bit tricky getting the Shogi-Gohei to look even half decent. Trying to replicate a pattern of rectangles with pentagons is not actually all that fun.
Honestly, I need to sleep on this. I may just revert and make it a proper gohei with a cut pattern.

What I've got so far. Wound up going like a mixture of the Dragon hat from the first Wario Land and the Crocodile head from Snake Eater.
It's uhh... not great. I think I should add the castle body/bottom half to it, like a dragon emerging from the castle.

...please don't ask what specific thing I've based this barding on... I've just kinda did my best and slapped on the shogi pieces as ornaments.

Shogi Keima is done.
Couldn't figure out how to do the horse's barding right, so decided on using a banner to denote it being different to the standard Chess Knight.
I also put on blinders shaped like the Shogi piece, for silhouette and for communicating "can only go forward"
