Here's the real insight though

Fundamentals become MORE important with AI, not less

When you have AI generating code, you need solid foundational knowledge to evaluate whether it's actually good

If you don't, you'll accept garbage code and mess up your apps

Learning AI means:

- Understanding what AI can and can't do
- Prompting techniques that actually generate working code
- Using AI for speed and productivity, not as a crutch
- Code review skills (you're reviewing AI output constantly)

Learning the code fundamentally means understanding:

- HTML, CSS, JavaScript basics
- React fundamentals (hooks, state, reconciliation)
- Design patterns that actually work
- How to think about architecture

This isn't optional. This is your foundation

You need to know exactly what to prompt for and you also need to be able to review the code

As great as Opus 4.5 is, it WILL make mistakes

Your understanding of code is what will allow you to catch those mistakes and steer it in the right direction

However, even though I've been using AI to write the code for me, I would not be able to do this without fundamental understanding of the code

This has shown me just how important it is to know your fundamentals before you go with AI

With Opus 4.5, this changed. It's much better at writing the code and I'm honestly quite impressed

What also helps is having a clear agents file and good quality established patterns in the code

Combine that with better and more precise prompting, and Opus can just cook

The thing holding back the most was the quality of the code

When I used AI in the past, it never generated code as good as I could

I would spend a lot of time reviewing the code and ultimately realized that it would often be faster for me to simply write it myself
