Another fun thing about this cinema trip: I've long been fascinated and entertained by Japan's "NO MORE Movie Thief" 🚨📹 characters so it was fun to actually see one of the campaign's videos play before the movie!
And then a couple days later I found a figure of the cameraman in Akihabara!!

was pleasantly surprised by how much GK merch was in resale stores (though, knowing my "I'll be mad with an incomplete/inconsistent set" brain I was able to limit my spending), particularly a big ol' illustration of Hijikata's "boys just love to play with swords" in the airsoft section of one shop

I forgot to get around to "Zenigata and the Two Lupins" (maybe I should've streamed it while I was in Japan to get around the region lock? lol)... I know canon isn't super-strict in Koike's world but I'd still like to see it at some point. I'm sure I can figure out how/where to...

protip if you're like me and buy a cheap fake tree: pick up a <$10 garland and wrap it around the trunk to make the boughs feel less sparse – especially once you've decorated it's almost unnoticeable!

Phone battery dropped from ~33% down to 2% and then died while out on a walk... then after seconds of being plugged in back home it's up to 65%. this might be the end of the ol' battery and therefore phone.....

The town was all lit up for Christmas which made the night extra cool and colorful!

Most of where we went in the city wasn't part of the ingame map, but it was cool to occasionally recognize spots and layouts that I had visited digitally.

Most of the Lupin stuff I saw was "ah, that's cool!" but I didn't have the display/usage space at home or don't need more miniature tat (or am just not really a "sexy figures of anime ladies" guy) but I did grab this Cagliostro shikishi and a lil safecracker

Thankfully the glass survived the flight in my carry-on though now I feel like I have to come up with a clever way to display them – "four empties lying around" is a little too bachelor-pad even for my standards haha. Maybe a small floating shelf where I can put a figure or print alongside?

There weren't a ton of limited-time pop-ups/tie-ins for anime I really wanted to see in Japan, but *the night before my last day* I discovered two Lupin promos were happening so at first light I skedaddled over to Donki to buy cheap soju and Beam to look at overpriced clothes (alt text for details)

Depending on who you ask (and how you define "oldest" and "operating") it's one of the oldest still-operating movie theaters in Japan! The screens are modernized (digital projection, surround sound) but that doesn't take away from it being such a cool and unique place.
