I love me some high quality hobby supplies. Whether it's a fancy set of brushes, a drawing tablet with a screen, or maybe a really nice pair of hiking boots.

BUT

It's SOO fun seeing how much you can stretch bottom of the barrel, cheap supplies! Sure the quality is worse, but IT'S FUN

My new game about #rockhounding is slowly coming together!

Been focusing on the environment working, because there has to be lots and lots of rock variety!

#b3d trick

Sometimes doing UVs and texturing can be tricky because of little nooks and crannies in the model, but you can duplicate part of the mesh or make shape keys to explode it and simplify the process a little bit :)

Workshop is coming along 🙌

Making a game about #rocks as my next project. Currently in the ass stage of making it astonishing 😆

But it's coming along nicely!

Lmao the new game I'm working on is conceptually simpler than some of the other projects I've worked on but it's LITTERED with unique UI elements and different cameras, throwing me for a loop a bit 😅

I'm curious what Affinity's announcement is gonna be in regards to the "creative freedom" today. Hoping it's something super useful and not a rug pull for the existing customer base :)

I need an in game calendar for my current project(s), and I am resisting the urge to make an overkill solution by rebuilding an actual calendar 🫠

Rainy PNW hiking

Hiking and finding cool rocks is a blast, but I GOT TO SEE AN OWL 😍😍

I was carrying our toddler and my wife looked up from tying her boot to see a shadow swooping down at us from behind!!

It was trying to be all imposing in the rain but I know behind those talons is a 2lb raging cotton ball 🤗

The truism of "if you can't make ot fun woth just cubes, you can't make it fun with amazing graphics" just highlights this point.

Point A has a powerup. Point B has health. Point C a secret door. Point D is the exit. That's your level at its most stripped back.

Trying to chisel away at some mineral stone we got rockhounding recently, a fragment split off and it has quartz, grossular garnet, and epidote all clustered together

You'd think a day of adventure would wipe a toddler out but instead it's me, barely awake face down on the floor while she begins to dump out the magnet tiles 🤣

#gamedev has been going strong despite radio silence. Full time dad life + good weather has me very busy 😊

Been doing lots of concept art work to get to a better spot for Emberhold! And trying to come up with a creative way to link Pinehearth with it!

Pinehearth is also getting an update but TBA

Tumbling some rocks, will it be shiny or sand

I could read instructions but where's the fun in that

I skimmed some though
September 26, 2025 at 2:33 AM
Something that might seem a bit silly from the outside but has made working on Emberhold a pure joy again is that I'm trying to make sure whatever I'm working on, I can have my toddler playtest

#gamedev can feel challenging for me while juggling parenting, but this has made it a little less so!

A burl found we found on a hike yesterday, not 500 feet from a bible someone abandoned a while ago next to a giant moss covered tree. On the cover of the bible was a faded note saying

"Mommy loves you. Daddy loves you. We're so proud of you"

The energy was so eerie there. We left quite quickly.

Drawing is just so fun once you loosen up and hit that flowing stage

Doesn't matter if its detail work or concepting 😌

The old adage "measure twice, cut once" can be applied to #gamedev too

@chrisdeleon.bsky.social has mentioned the importance of effective prototyping methods in the past, like building the facade of the mechanic before implementing it

Or you can be like me, gutting my mechanic for the 3rd time 😌

Doing some morning drawing and I'm like "haha why does my cheek tickle??" and I brush my face to discover a spider crawling on it.

Whyyyyy
