It did not work.

Tried the trusty Boot Repair. It complained about a missing BIOS-Boot partition. Created one after struggling with gparted (have to first create the partition and appy to then be able to set the bios_grub flag).

Boot Repair was finally happy. Rebooted and it finally worked.
