I grew up with the Washington Post, wrote editorials for the Washington Post and published a column there for more than 15 years. To watch its owners destroy it, seemingly deliberately, in just a year and a half is devastating.

Notice the word "elite". Only the "elite" are welcome to the table. Like Jesus said in the Beatitudes: the "elite" will ... My thought is "be welcome to Dante's 9th circle where the sin required planning, corrupted institutions, and multiplied harm invisibly." What do you think?
According to Wikipedia "National Prayer Breakfast is designed to be a forum for the political, social, and business elite to assemble and pray together."
Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast: "We hit 'em. And we want to hit 'em right, sir, and we want to hit them from the top! East, west, north, south. Sir, they won't know what the hell! And we'll knock them out. We did it politically correct. Five years."

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

Democracy dies in oligarchy.

Our definitely flawed founders didn't think that white men who weren't land owners were smart or moral. If you couldn't read the newspaper, was journalism really for informing the masses or for something else? Assisting the gentry?
Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

I subscribe to the NYT and the Guardian so I support journalism but I'm having a hard, hard time understanding your point when I see how Biden's health was reported v Trump's, when 60 minutes and George S capitulated, and when female reports are denigrated almost daily by the WH for example, and 🦗.
People often disparage the press — and we often get it wrong — but almost everything you know about this administration is not because pundits go on tv or social media and pontificate but because of relentless reporting from real journalists at institutions that give them resources to do so.

According to the Nat'l Council of Churches, DHS had an internal “sensitive locations” policy that discouraged immigration enforcement at places like churches, schools, and hospitals unless absolutely necessary. That policy was rescinded — meaning those protections are no longer officially in effect.
"'The idea that they want to protect people’s freedom to worship and yet sit outside and specifically target their churches in the sixty days since they’ve been here goes against their argument.'"

That's a nicer way to say it than they deserve.

So being white is now a protected class even though they are just under 60% of the population? So for every 10 applicants, 6 of them will be white? Are they sure white folks aren't just being replaced by white folks?

So glad you brought up the "no arrests" made from the "fraud" noise. What I don't understand is the noise telling us that they only were going after the "worst of the worst". If that was true why were these criminals "deported" and not prosecuted and jailed? Watch what they do, not what they say.
USAID fraud - no arrests

Medicare fraud - no arrests

Social security fraud - no arrests

Election fraud - no arrests

If MAGA didn’t have the collective IQ of a moldy peanut butter sandwich, they’d realize they were being scammed by now.

Wouldn't that be a BIG, BEAUTIFUL BUNGLE from someone who I'm told is the Treasury Secretary? So he has a BA in political science from Yale. Wanted to be a journalist but couldn't HACK it. Just decided to be a hedge fund manager? But in his defense, didn't he give the muskRAT a black eye?
CASTEN: I want to read you a quote -- 'tariffs are inflationary and would strengthen the dollar.' Do you recognize it?

BESSENT: You're referring to a letter a wrote. Tariffs could be inflationary

CASTEN: No no. It says 'tariffs are inflationary.' Do you want to correct the record?

Didn't the settee sexual say some weird hierarchy of love: money, power, sex, God, family, friends, neighbors (literal), co-workers, home town folks who attend the same church, billionaires, and white men (if somehow they were excluded in the other categories)? Minister Mike must be an acolyte.
incredibly weird little creep who manages to fly somewhat under the radar because this is the age of weird creeps in government
Q: Pope Leo cited Matthew 25:35 to critique Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda. How would you respond to Pope Leo in scripture?

MIKE JOHNSON: Sovereign borders are biblical and right and just. It's not because we hate the people on the outside. It's because we love the people on the inside.

You POS.

The 2019 federal case bought by the Southern District of NY thought they had enough to charge and convict him. But he died while in custody. That was very convenient for a lot of a lot of powerful white men.

BELIEVE THE WOMEN!
Utterly disgusting.

Would he say that if it were his wife?
His mother?
His daughter?

Survivors don’t get to argue in hypotheticals. They live with what happened. And they deserve far more than this casual indifference from someone entrusted with justice.

It is the administration that we want to see in handcuffs and jail. Not reporters. Just saying aloud what many are thinking.
Rep. Buddy Carter: "I applaud Don Lemon being arrested. He should be. As I go through the state and I hear people, they are tired of this. They are tired of seeing what's happening here. They want to see people in handcuffs, they want to see people go to jail."
