My take is that the Smiths inspired all of them and were better than any of them.
It's a real shame Moz is such a dickhead.

I agree with you about U2 personally but I can't bring myself to deny that War, Joshua Tree, Achtung, and ATYCLB were all massive successes.
I freaking love Talking Heads and I think you're right that they're more influential today, but I think they never reached the global saturation of REM or U2.

Respectfully disagree! Give 'Em Enough Rope is underrated if anything. Safe European Home is a banger and as incisive a critique of Western politics as anything on Combat Rock.

Interesting! I don't think I've ever heard someone with that opinion before. I guess I'm due for a re-listen deep dive.

100% cosigned. R.E.M.'s only real peer in terms of longevity, creative range and cultural influence is U2. And if U2 had called it quits in 2010, they'd probably have a much better rep now.
Also, where do I sign up to participate in this kind of discourse every single day?

The Sex Pistols were Important, but not Great.
The Clash were both Important and Great.
I'm not gonna deny how massively influential the Pistols are, but if I'm chilling I'm throwing on London Calling over Never Mind every single time.

The Jewish people have been around for over 10 times longer than the modern *concept* of nation-states so, like, what are we doing here?

Truth. You can point to a lot of the administration as callously cynical opportunists: Rubio, Noem, even Trump himself are going through the motions to self-enrich, but won't be sad to leave when they get their bags.
Miller is a true believer. This naked violence is his life's work.

Do you have a particular genre, era, or IP in mind? We talking 16-bit or early 3D?

Also I just remembered that Bushfire was my very first “favorite” song. I was probably 6 years old. I had no idea it was a silly sex joke played earnestly, I just knew those harmonies made me feel something.

Thank you for making this! My dad had a couple of CDs (Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff) that I played the hell out of in the 90s but I didn’t know about their queerness or subversiveness until I was an adult. What a special band.
