when you rely on elite advocacy to make change, you tend to end up with reforms that are acceptable to elites. here, in cleveland, that means neoliberal reforms. when you rely on elite advocacy you tend to reproduce neoliberalism
LOL at my city councilor telling us he's so mad about something that he doesn't have to do anything about and using that opportunity to plug his inuagural remarks on his Substack! SELFLESS! PROGRESS! LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!

It's frustrating to me that Austin Davis, my city councilor, hasn't responded to my text from a couple days ago when I asked him to speak out against Sam McNulty's threat to collaborate with Senator Bernie Moreno to have federal funding pulled from a public transit infrastructure project.

when i see celebration of the strength of opposition in minneapolis, i am reminded of the decade-long effort local unions led there to align contract dates and build power. meanwhile, here in cleveland too many people only care about their own next immediate "achievement" PROGRESS!!

all these reporters giving voice to McNulty's hissy fit and not giving a voice to transit riders

paradoxically, the minute you accept a job as a pundit, you become unqualified for it. this is because punditry belongs in dive bars and union meetings and the like. the only good pundit is some mouthy fuck with nothing to lose

i am curious what the relative power of the nonprofit sector in minneapolis and cleveland is

systems accomplish what they are designed to do. the cuyahoga county democratic party executive committee was designed to protect the power of a relatively small group of petit-elites.

the "progressive" cleveland mayor failed to install even 5 public restrooms in his first term despite the equipment sitting in a warehouse for years. he hired more cops though!
More public restrooms across our city?
Relief for all New Yorkers.

where does "willingness to kowtow to those with more power" fall on the good public servant rubric?
January 17, 2026 at 1:54 PM
