Going to undergrad in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg, then working at the local newspaper, from 2016-2021, meant living every day in a microcosm of the contemporary debate around American history, identity and politics.

This article captures that push-and-pull like nothing else I've read.
Thirty-one years ago, there was a slave auction reenacted at Colonial Williamsburg.

Some thought it powerful, many thought it insulting.

This summer, I traveled to Williamsburg myself to see how the country’s largest living history museum today tells the story of Black life at America’s founding.
What Is Colonial Williamsburg For?
Telling the full story of the town’s past is an easy way to make a lot of people mad.

“It depends on where they come from and how they grew up—what their grandma and granddaddy told them. Because when you tell our story”—she brought her index finger to her chest—“you’re really shaking the foundation of other people’s stories.” -Janice Canaday

If you want to understand open adoption, it makes sense to start with birth parents—yet studies of them are few. 2+ yrs ago, I began talking w/ birth mothers to try to understand what living in an open adoption is like for them, and what rights or options they might have if challenges were to arise.
When Adoption Promises Are Broken
Many birth mothers hope to maintain contact with their child. But their agreements with adoptive parents can be fragile.

"How the Word is Passed" is my favourite non-fiction book of all time, both because of its information and because of its prose. An adaptation for young readers is amazing to hear about.
Thank you CBS Mornings for having me. Excited to have this book out in the world today.

Martinelli has been transformed by the competition we have for places now. Depth matters.
The spoils are shared at the Emirates.

Arsenal left it late, but Gabriel Martinelli's stoppage time equaliser rescues a point for Mikel Arteta's side.

For the first time in his career, Pep Guardiola goes five games without a top-flight league win against an opponent.

These are the sort of routine wins Arsenal need for a long season. Comfortable result, shared minutes, a Zubimendi golazo, Noni cooking on the right. Our depth has opened up new levels.
