Several points. 1st, "A World Adrift" is an apt description of our current state. 2nd, In 2025, we've already hit a milestone for 2040! The foresight planners were clearly not imagining such rapid change/breakdown rates. 3rd, the remaining 15 more years leaves a lot of room for further collapse.

Direct air capture is not currently viable strategy. Likely increases carbon pollution (more carbon energy required to than saved). See @mzjacobson.bsky.social's work: news.stanford.edu/stories/2019... & Joe Romm's review for our center (@penncssm.bsky.social): bpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com/web.sas.upen...
Study casts doubt on carbon capture
Current approaches to carbon capture can increase air pollution and are not efficient at reducing carbon in the atmosphere, according to research from Mark Z. Jacobson.

“It’s not the natural state of America that we are polarized about climate change. It’s artificial, created by the billions in spending by the fossil fuel industry “ defending its $700 billion in subsidies.

“An industry will undertake all kinds of wickedness to defend a $700 billion subsidy”.
