Early protection is often the difference between recovery and extinction. Sign our petition to oppose the removal of blanket protections for threatened species!

Express your opposition to removing blanket protections for threatened species
The “blanket rule” established under the Endangered Species Act automatically prohibits all threatened species from being killed, harmed, trapped, or traded—but the new proposed rule would completely overturn it. Instead, agencies would be required...

Instead of protecting every threatened species, officials would have to create separate rules one by one.

That means delays.
More bureaucracy.
And species slipping closer to extinction while paperwork catches up.

A proposed revision to the Endangered Species Act, 4(d), would remove these automatic protections, tipping the scales away from science at a time when climate change and habitat loss are already putting wildlife under unprecedented stress.

Our Trees for Life program makes it easy to take direct, meaningful action by planting indigenous trees that revive ecosystems, clean the air, & support farming families.

It’s a hands-on way to help restore balance to our planet, alongside the systemic change we advocate through Climate Action Now.

Without a dedicated producer or dedicated programming, climate coverage will inevitably plummet at the exact moment we need more clarity, not less. Climate reporting saves lives, informs voters, and keeps pressure on leaders to act. Losing it is a huge setback for the public.

The team did an excellent job at connecting the dots between extreme weather, politics, science, and our daily lives.

But after sweeping layoffs and programming cuts in late October, the CBS News climate team has been reduced to a team of one. One.

First introduced in 2024, the Coastal Restoration Act would strengthen our nation’s ability to protect and restore vulnerable coastal ecosystems by:

- mapping coastal ecosystems to track these vital ecosystems
- enabling data-sharing across states
- supporting restoration efforts across the U.S.
