CO₂ remains in the atmosphere for centuries, and stressed natural systems are becoming less able to draw it down - making sustained emissions reductions and strong monitoring efforts more important than ever.

The NURSE project (Nutrient Utilization and Recovery Through Supercritical Extraction) aims to transform how farmers manage waste and fertilize fields - cutting emissions, improving soil health, lowering costs, capturing CO₂, recovering purified water and nutrients, and creating clean tech jobs.

Love to see companies step up where fed climate action falls short 👏 Uber is offering $4K grants to help drivers switch to EVs - part of their plan for 100% zero-emission trips by 2030. It’s live in CA, CO, MA & NYC - we're hoping WA next!

From @ember-energy.org’s Global Electricity Mid-Year Insights 2025: In H1 2025, solar & wind outpaced global demand growth & renewables surpassed coal for the first time 🔆💨

Solar + wind met 109% of demand growth
Solar covered 83%, up 31% YoY
Renewables: 34.3% of power vs. coal: 33.1%

We love to see more solar + storage projects coming online 🔆🔋 The combo is key to unlocking the clean energy transition here in WA and across the country.

This project will have 160 MW of generating potential, which can power 32,500 homes. It will host an on-site 63 MW battery storage system!

"We build shit" - Joe Nguyen

Great piece from @geekwire.com on how WA state can stay resilient against federal rollbacks.
Why? WA has the capital, workforce, the institutional know-how, and the spirit and history of cutting-edge innovation.

@energyinnovation.org modeled the impacts of the federal gov's attempts to repeal tailpipe emissions standards & the results are devastating for the economy, communities and the air we breathe.

The impact:
- 17K pollution-related premature deaths
- Americans pay $310B more
- 110k jobs annually

Last month, WA joined a coalition of 9 other states + D.C. working to increase heat pump adoption.

@canarymedia.com: “Their targets: By 2030, heat pumps will make up 65% of the sales of residential heating, air conditioning & water heating equipment. By 2040, the percentage is to climb to 90%.”

Our friends at @envdefensefund.bsky.social put together a great breakdown of how states can keep advancing Paris-aligned commitments amidst federal retrenchment on climate action & the clean energy transition!

The big takeaway? Follow WA & CA’s lead: implement cap-and-invest!

ICYMI: @knkx.org reports on the importance of California’s cap-and-invest reauthorization, and what it means for Washington’s plans to join the CA-Quebec carbon market, which is the fourth-largest in the world 🌎

With federal funding drying up, venture capitalists, nonprofits & academics are stepping in with a new resource: The Climate Tech Atlas!

It maps 24 “opportunity areas” + 39 “moonshots” to guide innovators, investors & policymakers.

Developing #SAF is key to hitting emissions reduction goals. Aviation, marine & rail = 16% of WA’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Moving from jet fuel to biofuels will cut pollution, create green jobs & boost ag for SAF feedstock.

🎉 Great news 🎉

The California legislature voted to reauthorize its cap-and-invest program through 2045. The bill now heads to @governor.ca.gov for signature. CA’s reauthorization sets the stage for a California-Québec-Washington linked market.

Even as federal support for clean energy rolls back, the U.S. solar industry isn’t standing still.

Data from @woodmac.com:
- 70M homes suitable for rooftop solar → 1,500 GW potential.
- Currently, 5M homes & commercial buildings produce ~50 GW.
- 150 GW of new residential solar expected by 2050.

WA is ready to lead, but without federal action, the fight against climate change becomes steeper for everyone.

The Pittsburgh 2030 District beat its carbon goal — cutting emissions 52% across 1,300 buildings and saving $44M.

Collaboration made it possible:
🌍 135M sq. ft. advancing shared pollution reduction goals
💡 25% energy savings = $44M avoided costs
🤝 Partnerships across sectors driving impact

The shift to clean energy is good for businesses, workers & the environment — and a majority of U.S. voters agree.

New polling from @dataforprogress.org shows:
📈 Positive local impacts
💪 More resilient than fossil fuels
🏡 Majority support local projects

A telling story in charts: “U.S. developers report half of new electric generating capacity will come from solar.”

Clean energy, driven by growth in solar and battery storage, is expanding at scale while costly, less efficient fossil fuels are being phased out.

This @soseaemerald.bsky.social article is an important reminder that, despite the fed gov’s efforts to deny the connection between GHG emissions and our health, there are real-world impacts to air pollution, and they’re happening every day here in WA.

Before 1970, the US had never had a documented megafire. From 2005–2014, it jumped to nearly 10 per year.

Reducing GHG emissions and investing in resilience strategies are essential to helping save lives, livelihoods, and keeping the air we breathe safe and clean.

From @jeva.bsky.social in @heatmap.news : “The West is Primed for a Megafire”

Significant fire potential in the PNW is expected to stay above average through September. Nearly all of WA & OR are “abnormally dry or in drought status.”

Live fuels are drying rapidly in WA, in particular.
