I live on a corner with flexposts that get smashed every couple of weeks by cars jumping the curb as they rip over the crest of a blind hill with a slight turn. A neighbor used to repair them himself by standing them up in coffee cans filled with cement and epoxying the cans to the curb!
The county somewhat bizarrely has an infinite willingness to repair those flexposts and absolutely zero willingness to think about why they need repaired at least every few weeks and the implications for pedestrians of the posts being routinely flattened.

Just started David Todd's A Velvet Empire on French informal imperialism and really enjoying it. Some great discussion about the nature and definitions of imperialism - and comparisons to American post-WWII "influence imperialism."
Highly recommend it so far.

I am spending all weekend changing all of our course materials from DoD to DoW, and honestly, Pentagon is Pete is such a half-ass quitter. Why no National War Strategy? No National War Authorization Act? No War Health Agency? They're too chickenshit to issue War Instructions (DOWIs and DOWDs).

This is what a lot of the fed defense universities did at the beginning of the year. The "AI analysis" was really stretching the term. It was mostly Ctrl+F for a series of banned words and no actual follow-up discussion to defend important content.
Message to all faculty: your expertise is no longer trusted or valued at this so-called “university.”
