If you're not looking for advice please disregard.

For a non-Google smart thermostat I have been extremely happy with our Sensi. Simple app that works well, no attempt to shove "AI" into your face or nag you to buy a subscription

It's been far more than five years for me, but I cannot recommend "Git for ages 4 and up" highly enough. It made things finally click in my brain, and I was finally able to move beyond "copy these four commands by rote, delete and re-clone any time you have problems"

There is an extremely funny workaround, at least for the provider discord uses

"Internal builds fail twice as often" is so goddamn funny

If you're just playing around with Linux, a recent Raspberry Pi may have close to the same compute power as your 10 year old CPU and the power draw is a rounding error. But if you've got a NAS with a bunch of spinning disks, those probably draw more power than the CPU.

It really depends on what type of system you're running and what tasks you're doing.

If it's "free from work" server hardware that draws 100W+ at base load, it probably makes sense to look at upgrading.

But if you're running a bunch of spinning disks, changing CPU may have minimal impact

We do not, in fact, have to accept the shit shoveled at our faces. Maybe finally the media has reached the tipping point to say the obvious...

"We should employ the resources of the state to imprison people for petty vandalism" - Not Politics 👍

"Wow the CEO is saying some pretty terrible things lately, it's making me reconsider my purchase" - That's Politics 🙅‍♂️

For old times' sake: bsky.app/profile/cari...

And a key distinction is that this was Something Awful, not Reddit
Going to repost the story about Doom Bathroom from the Something Awful forums.

It has had a life on Twitter, then cohost, and I guess it is in my rights to bring it here only because someone had made me aware recently of extra content.

I believe I originally posted this in 2018.

It's only a matter of time before Kagi jumps face first into AI slop. They were founded as an AI company and a huge part of their development effort is on their stupid "FastGPT" AI.

I'm not trying to discount your experience, but if you joined Kagi to get away from AI, you're going to be let down

I'm confident that like 95% of my (admittedly small) knowledge of film comes from reading Roger Ebert. I can appreciate film/cinema much more as a result.

When it comes to architecture and cycling, that's 99% and it's from you.

If this is specific to interactions on BlueSky, be aware that there are (or at the very least) were "Reply guy as a service" bots that did nothing but politely disagree:

A polite disagreement bot ring is flooding Bluesky — reply guy as a (dis)service
On the Bluesky social network, you may notice a lot of drive-by responses from accounts that rarely or never post — they just reply to other accounts. The reply pattern starts with a phrase like “I…

The pharmacist said the bill was "two twelve" and I truly did not know if it was going to be $2.12 or $212. Thankfully the former.

Very normal country

I actually found that the Sceptre brand sold by Walmart sells dumb TVs that aren't "business class" displays.

The builtin speakers are horrible and it doesn't even have a way to connect to the internet - which is just what I wanted! Picture is good, I have soundbarv and Chromecast. 50" 4K $200
