We also show that Schwann cells are axo-protective after injury in these cocultures, regardless of whether they are myelinating or not.

We also show that Schwann cells are axo-protective after injury in these cocultures, regardless of whether they are myelinating or not.
In our model, we achieve beautiful myelination, and replicate key parts of the Schwann cell injury response, such as upregulation of the transcription factor JUN, demyelination of degenerating axons, and ingestion of axonal fragments.
