they flip-flopped between the three designs between 2001 and 2005, occasionally using variants not seen elsewhere (pictured). of note is that mario 64 ds (2004) specifically replaced the blue thwomps in the original with grey ones

i didnt like how nintendo took the fire flower design from the 80s (rejecting the mario world one in the process) and based most of the flower powerup designs on it. so i made my own designs which stand out more and more effectively convey what they do
