Claire O’Shea of @clairescampaign.bsky.social sadly passed away on the 12th of May this year. This month would have been her 43rd birthday, making today’s motion being passed even more poignant. Her voice lives on through this campaign, and through the women who continue to speak out.
October 10, 2025 at 11:52 AM
The motion calls for:
• A renewed Women’s Health Plan with gynae cancer focus
• An urgent review of emergency presentations
• Awareness campaigns with Public Health Wales
• Implementation of Senedd Health Committee recommendations in full
October 10, 2025 at 11:52 AM
In 2021 alone, 373 women in Wales lost their lives. Insight from Tenovus Cancer Care shows: 📊 Incidence & mortality for gynae cancers in Wales are higher than the UK average. ⏳ Only 34% met the 62-day cancer pathway target in July 2022. Nearly 3 years later, progress has stalled at 32.4%.

Calling for urgent action on gynaecological cancers in Wales and building on Claire's legacy to make sure women are listened to and change is delivered. Every year in Wales, there are over 1,000 cases of gynaecological cancers.

They’re the 4th most common cause of cancer death among women here.

Together with @tenovuscancercare.bsky.social and @cavendishcymru.bsky.social, Claire's Campaign is pushing for:

• Greater public awareness of symptoms
• Clearer messaging on what screening does (and doesn’t) cover
• Faster pathways to diagnosis

💙 Women deserve to be heard.

Why this matters:
Women are too often told a “clear smear” means everything is fine. Claire, Jessica, and many others prove that isn’t always the case.

Listening to women + improving awareness saves lives.

❌ Myth: Cervical screening checks for all gynaecological cancers.
✅ Truth: Cervical screening looks for high-risk HPV that can cause cervical cancer.

It does not detect ovarian, womb, vaginal, or vulval cancers.

Through the partnership of @tenovuscancercare.bsky.social & @clairescampaign.bsky.social, we’ve published The Unheard Report and continue campaigning in Claire’s legacy for all affected by gynae cancers.

“I feel the pain & loss I have endured could have been prevented if I was just listened to.

We know our bodies. We know when something isn’t right.”

Jessica, thank you for your strength in sharing your story.

Even with a clear smear & internal exam, Jessica was dismissed.

Six months after treatment, her tumour was still there.
She underwent a radical hysterectomy in June 2023.
