My wife, who has described The Lost Boys as being too scary, has agreed to a Halloween horror movie.

What should we watch?

Thinking about how small details illuminates character...

Almost every morning I have a Caffe Americano (Long Black) followed by a large cup of instant coffee with milk and sugar.

What the hell does that say about me as a character? Lol.

I worked at a poker dealer for 14 years. If anyone ever needs to make sure the poker game in their fiction rings true, feel free to reach out.

I also make sourdough and know how to distill alcohol...

What practical knowledge do you have that would help other writers?
So handy knowing people with v practical expertise when writing fiction

Consulted lately:
* My brother, who knows rats
* My mom, a physio, who can guess at how swordfighting might leave a blacksmith sore
* My husband, ye olde HEMA and martial arts enthusiast, fight choreographer extraordinaire

Newsletter drop! @bryanpedersen.bsky.social's been telling me to get this done for ages. It still took a month. Herein we've got Hollow Knight, Silksong, Dark Souls, Yahweh, and America mashed up together in an unholy bundle of post-imperial #horror fantasy, plus a few choice words for fascists.
Hollow Knight, Dark Souls, and the Catharsis of Post-Empire Fantasy
Because when you inhabit a crumbling empire, I guess all you want to do is stomp around one that's already crumbled.

I took some time off submitting short stories—had a rough go with life shit there for awhile and couldn't handle rejections on top of it. But now I'm back to the grind.

*Nails spike into wall*

I'm ready.

Tonight on Fermented Fiction we debate one of the most 90s-ass trilogies of all time. You've got katanas, sexy vampires, one-man armies taking on corrupt corporate entities bent on ressurecting old gods... what else could you need?

How about an appearance from Brian McAuley?

I'm stupid excited for my friend JR's debut novel. We've been part of a small critique group for several years, and I've seen first hand the passion, talent, and hard work he put into making this book a reality. Portraits of Decay is awesome and deserves to be read! Please pre-order and share!
We're ONE MONTH out (10.21.25) from #PortraitsofDecay by debut horror novelist @jrblanes.bsky.social!

Painted in occult rituals gone wrong & the Southern Gothic, in obsession & thirst for control, Portraits of Decay asks: why ruin a painting when you can ruin a soul?

The ones that go in are lean and thin.
The ones that come out are fat and stout.
Your eyes fall in and your teeth fall out.
Your brains come tumbling down your snout.
They eat your eyes and they eat your nose.
They eat the jelly between your toes...
The rejections come in…The submissions go out…The rejections come in…The submissions go out…The rejections come in…The submissions go out…occasionally you get a really nice rejection that makes you smile…and The rejections come in…The submissions go out…The rejections come in…The submissions go out…

I'd love a "Warning: Trigger Warnings on next page" so I could skip them.

I understand why they exist, but I don't want to know if the dog dies because either way it kills the tension for me.
Musing question: Do dark-fiction fans still need/want trigger warnings?

Is this a case of "no, because 'dark' makes triggers a given" or "yes, because different people have different triggers"?

Guessing the latter, even though I love dark fiction and don't need/want them. Right?
