On the 2nd day of #Crustmas, my Georgia coast gave to me, a coastal-dune-dwelling isopod, making tracks! Trackmaker is probably Armadillidium vulgare (nicknamed "pillbug" or "roly poly"), with special guest tracks made by much bigger ghost crabs (Ocypode quadrate), on Sapelo Island, GA. 🦀🐾

It was a long walk to look at a footprint.

A large theropod track, likely left by a tyrannosaur around 70 million years ago, in what’s now Denali National Park. Tracks like these are preserved on patches of exposed rock called flatirons that take some serious hiking to get to. 🧪

Siren Alligators might be the most specialized human predators. These pack hunters have two distinct ways of mimicking our species.
Juveniles thrash in the water near ships, using their face-like throat markings to appear like a drowning person. The pack attacks when someone attempts a rescue.
