Ultimately, if they really believe this, it is because the tech elite have bought into the MMT-esque idea that, for the American state, money really is infinite. Fortunately for us, money is an expression of command over labor, and there is in fact a finite amount of labor in the world.

Some of these services are private, despite only continuing to operate via state subsidy. "AI" could theoretically become this, but that's a different thing than a bailout, and even then it seems unlikely the American state currently has the ability to marshal the kind of resources "AI" needs!

There are services that, when accounted as an individual enterprise, permanently run at a loss because states decide that they are beneficial to the maintenance of social order broadly (obviously varying social orders are benefited by varying services).

"AI" does not make money, has never made money, and will never make money. If "AI" is ever sold at a price that actually made it profitable, no one will pay for it. You can't bail that out!

I watched this show after seeing a trailer for the second season, which has quite a big shift from the first, and it is incredibly dumb all the way through but I did find that second season a lot of fun (although its premise is the kind of trash I love so ymmv).

I feel confident most of the people who speak of the original as an uncomplicated classic, especially in relation to the new game, have never played it and are simply parroting a received discourse
