Super stoked to relate that the first single from my forthcoming record "Gilman Town Hall" is out!

A surf-rock number featuring some crunchy guitars, pounding drums, and a wee bit of electric sitar. Enjoy!

Good summary of some serious issues with “Agentic AI.” Suggests standards groups should consider how federated AI agents would work: set it up so there’s no one firm who has all the data (and all the authorizations) to do stuff.
Worth a watch:

Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

Near the end of the Biden years, Elizabeth Prelogar asked the Supreme Court to rein in nationwide injunctions in a low-stakes case where a Republican judge/Fifth Circuit blocked an act of Congress from applying to anyone anywhere.

They declined and took up Trump’s patently illegal order instead.

All the more true given the “that” in the play is to arrest the legally innocent but morally corrupt Richard Rich, who reminds me of the comic book character who is a child with insane amounts of gold and cash.
William Roper: “Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!”

Sir Thomas More: “Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat?”

Very very sad news. Not just my Senator, my neighbor. Peace and comfort to his wife, family, friends and constituents.
I’m just heartbroken. Bill Ramos was a dear friend, an incredible leader, and a treasured partner in serving our communities. We have lost a true champion in Washington State. My heart is with Councilmember Sarah Perry, and all who loved him. He will be deeply missed.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Right-wing populism is leveraging online platforms' participatory nature. A counter-movement must amplify its constituents' values, with a commitment to truth.

On Feb. 14th I try always to give honor to one of the greatest contributors to American democracy in our nation’s history, Frederick Douglass. Born into slavery, Douglass never knew his actual birthdate, and adopted Feb. 14th as the day. His penetrating insights about our country inspire me daily.

Not surprised by the ever-thoughtful Commissioner's nuanced response - but pleasantly surprised to see it reference the 2008 ISTTF (cyber.harvard.edu/research/isttf), to which I made a modest contribution and which collectively made several findings on age verification still quite relevant today.

Matthew 5:9 says "blessed are the peacemakers" - those who risk something in striving for reconciliation and justice.

President Carter was not always successful but he never tired of striving, whether on the red hills of Georgia or the plains of the Mideast. A life worth a century of blessings.

Good analysis of how thinking doesn't work the way we may think it does, and why it's important to keep an eye on your own thinking. In particular, watch for the tendency to rationalize away facts to conform to identity & beliefs. Might make Thanksgiving dinner go more smoothly!
