I agree that you should never hand your phone to the cops, but there are other uses for a digital ID, nor is it mutually exclusive with having a physical one

there should be a law that you can't call it a podcast unless it has an rss feed
In the same way a streaming "TV show" is no longer truly "televised" or even for televisions, the term "podcast" is quickly becoming a catch-all for a certain kind of show. This will be extremely stupid and confusing for a while and then we'll basically just call every talk show a podcast.
