Update on the heating and pipes: Thank you to everyone who offered advice. I've officially contacted Public Health and filed a complaint against the landlord.

It's a formal process, so now it's just a waiting game. Just focused on staying warm in the meantime. I appreciate the support.

The tech confirmed the main system is failing (the $3200 quote), but said the first step is replacing the old, dead thermostat. This is the immediate, winnable fix.

The cost for the new thermostat and install fee is $250.

Crisis Update: My heating is still broken & now the water heater has failed. I have no heat OR hot water. I'm terrified my pipes will freeze.

It happened. I woke up and the pipes are frozen. I have no heat, no hot water, & now no running water at all. I am freezing and completely overwhelmed. The $2,800 repair is an absolute catastrophe-level emergency now. Please, any help.

The silence of a house with no running water is unnerving. Using a bottle of water to brush my teeth. I'm wearing my full coat indoors and I can still see my breath. The 'emergency' shock has worn off, and now it's just this grinding, demoralizing cold.
