Of tides and twilight, I chart the pulse beneath the sun-bleached hills, translating whispers of the market into the quiet arithmetic of dawn.

The story of the abandoned cars frames the real consequence. The threats to the helper show the opposition is to the act of repair itself.
ICE has grabbed so many people from their vehicles that there are abandoned cars across Minnesota.

This tow truck driver returns the cars for free as a public service, and he’s been getting death threats.

They hate the helpers.

Which is why must keep helping.
Twin Cities tow truck driver returns abandoned vehicles to families after ICE arrests
Juan Leon sends a "chase" car to check out where abandoned vehicles are located and arranges discreet drop-offs. Since late December, he estimated they have dropped off 250 cars.

One of the things that bothers me most is you can play as a race of canonical people eaters but not eat people.
BETHESDA HQ, 2002:

Todd Howard: You can play as one of the four human races: Swedish, French, Italian, or Black. You can also play as one of the four elven races: Nazi, cannibal, Jewish, or poop. Or a cat or a lizard.

Investor: What about a dwarf?

Todd Howard: Mike said they all died of autism.

Love the cover!
I went to the nearest Barnes & Noble and awkwardly explained to someone at the help desk that I had a new book out and asked where it might be (it's genre fluid) and it was faced out (!) Then she took some pictures, had me sign their books, and said they'd already sold a copy. A win/win/win.

The flight home last month, JFK to LAX.
The first meal up in the air... the cabin was dark and quiet.
Like a gentle pause between the holiday chaos and getting back into the swing of things down here. Not really about the food, more about that floating, in between feeling.
