Brutal, I'm so sorry! The whole needing to space the shots out by two weeks for kids thing is such a hassle honestly.

Looks like it's in stock at this board game store in Vancouver if you have any friends in northern WA who could pick it up for you and then ship it. With exchange it would come to like $43 us plus tax
The Quiet Year - Roleplaying Game
The Quiet Year is a cartography-based roleplaying game. It can be a wonderful standalone product telling the story of a community and region, or a great way to

If you're really into this game as an option, and have time, you could try calling various independent game stores and see if they have stock left over and can ship. That's how I got Aaron a copy of Splendor the Christmas it was between printings

If their sense of humour veers a little toward the macabre, what about Gloom?

Tsuro isn't storytelling based but it is beautiful, plays very quickly, and can be modified if an eager preschooler wants to join in

I'm actually not totally clear, are you wanting to give them a game they can play with your sibling, or one they can play quickly while the kid is otherwise engaged?

Cooperative games are great for onboarding kids at that age. My personal favourite is Hoot Owl Hoot

I mean, yes, but I need to think about it every time and she immediately knows who each character is. I'm good with the Mane 6, but hopeless with the supporting cast

I remember this being extra dramatic because she and Peter MacKay were a couple at one point

Back in like 2020 I managed to set up and share a wish list from my local independent bookstore for this instead and it was really lovely

That's one of my top 5 movies and there's still no way I've seen it 6 times. 4, tops.

I'm just not a rewatcher, there are too many movies and shows out there. Not much of a rereader either.

But the temptation to do so is so real! Luckily mine has a birthday in January so if anything is really missed at Christmas it goes to the top of the birthday list

Like I'm using expensive paper this year because we found some on clearance last boxing day and I hate it, actually. I'm going right back to the dollar store as soon as this runs out
December 5, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Okay, but counterpoint, if you're in a hurry and not particular about perfect creases the cheap paper is actually easier to work with imo

Right?! Like, I don't think the sources of this argument would appreciate being marshalled in this way. They may not be pro-trans but they're generally suspicious of categorical statements about men or women as a class

I would say she's incorrectly citing the work of Carolyn Custis James, but the essay doesn't seem like it was written by someone who reads books so it was probably filtered through a few layers of podcast telephone or something.

She does, I suppose, briefly mention the Hebrew "ezer kenegdo" from the Genesis creation account (without attribution), but then she immediately incorrectly asserts (also without attribution) that God is also referred to as "ezer kenegdo" in the Bible (ezer, yes, but not kenegdo).
