I have written an elegy to Six-Seven, which is dead, or at least dying. It is not a meme—memes are the purview of greedy adulthood attention thirst—but a case of Childlore. Though irritating, it should have been left alone.

When cartoon characters discuss numbers in base ten rather than base eight, it takes me completely out of my suspension of disbelief. Their society would not have developed that way.

Everything about the first Iron Man movie holds up or even improved with age except the score. That is some bland, bland stuff.

Annual reminder that it’s called Cyber Monday because we kind of didn’t used to have internet at home, at least not high-speed broadband. So you’d spend the morning at work, on your “lightning fast” 1.5Mbps connection, exercising the still-new novelty of buying stuff online.

I’m going to ask, against my better judgement, an earnest question. For literal decades, people have been stealing—and that is the right word—Google Images results (or similar) for many, perhaps most, presentations. Was this practice similarly confidence-destroying? Why or why not?
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.
