Happy Halloween!
If you’re hankering for Saturday evening frivolity at #PAXWest, please join me, Mike Krahulik, Jerry Holkins, and the rest of the #AcqInc cast for the latest #DnD live game! The fun starts at 7 PM (rather than the usual 8 PM time), so don’t be late. [This show features adults using adult language.]

I saw this hanging precariously above a doorway and, me being me, thought death by EXIT sign would be a pretty funny way to go.

The D&D adventure anthology #DragonDelves releases today. Ten adventures, ten dragons, and some trippy art! It was, for me, a particularly fun project to work on. Thanks to all the amazing artists, art directors, writers, editors, graphic designers, etc. who worked on it.

#Severance S2E4, “Woe’s Hollow,” was mind-boggling and creepy in the most Lynchian way. Ben Stiller is such a gifted director. John Turturro is sublime.

After many years, I finally rewatched The Last Unicorn. The movie’s vocal talent alone is amazing—Mia Farrow, Angela Lansbury, Christopher Lee, Jeff Bridges, René Auberjonois, etc.—but the commentary track with Peter Beagle was an added delight.

As winter approaches, I find myself thinking about Sidharth Chaturvedi’s gnoll vampire from Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (2020). Kate Irwin and I had three compositions to choose from. In the final, Sidharth increased the size of Tekeli-li’s hyena form to make him more terrifying. #dnd

The castle in “Wards of Witching Ways” (published in Dungeon 11 in 1988) was inspired by an Alan Lee illustration in Castles (1984), which Santa gave me for Christmas in 1985. #50YearsOfDnD

One of my all-time favorite projects to work on was Mines of Madness (2013), a 5E-compatible D&D adventure that Scott Kurtz and I created for sh*ts and giggles. Scott came up with the plot and the illustrations; I did the writing and the maps. It’s now roaming free on the internet. #50YearsOfDnD

Among the many fantastic gifts I’ve received from D&D fans over the years is this little bottle of dirt from Hell—specifically Hell, Michigan. Never been there, but I hear it’s nicer than Avernus. #dnd

Baba Yaga’s dancing hut was first explored in “The Dancing Hut,” an AD&D adventure in Dragon 83. One of the things you can find in the hut is a Soviet tank—further evidence that D&D embraces weirdness! In my expert opinion, you should ignore the part about the tank not being operable. #50YearsOfDnD

One of my favorite D&D adventures is Reavers of Harkenwold. It appeared in the 4E Dungeon Master’s Kit and was made by the same folks who created Lost Mine of Phandelver. Like Phandalin, Harkenwold is an awesome starter setting. It would be fun to update it for 5E. #50YearsOfDnD #dnd

D&D art directors periodically commission batches of “spot” illustrations, their purpose being to fill holes in books. This lovely spot illo, commissioned by Kate Irwin and created by @olgadrebas.bsky.social in 2021, found a home in the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. #dnd
