Back in July, I photographed an outdoor performance of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors on behalf of the Cowichan Public Art Gallery. The play was presented by The Shawnigan Players and took place in the garden of the gallery. Yes, it is a comedy. Fujifilm X-Pro2

My last set for October's #folderweek. Saturday was a dry day, so I went to nearby Duncan here on Vancouver Island. This place definitely has its little quirks. Zeiss Ikon Nettar 517/16 and Ilford HP5+ developed in D23.

An oversized inflatable model of a bong hangs next to the sign from a roof overhang above the adjacent sidewalk. An old upright piano in an alleyway. There is ivy trailing from a wall above and behind the piano. In a gap to the right of the piano is part of a sign with the word DAYS in capital letters. There are leaves from big leaf maple trees on the ground. A very messy space at the back of a rundown building. On the left is an old van. To the right, a sign is leaning against some rickety wooden stairs. The sign advertises the 39 Days of July, which is an annual outdoor music event held yearly in Duncan, BC. There are a couple of vehicle rims and a white chair to add to the clutter.

On my way home from Victoria on the Friday of October's #folderweek, I stopped in Mill Bay to photograph this old wooden church. The rain had stopped, and the sun even made a brief appearance. Zeiss Ikon Nettar 517/16, Ilford HP5+ developed in D23.

October's #folderweek was a challenge, with mobility issues and lots of rain. I managed two outings with my Nettar 517/16, exposing just one roll of HP5+, dev in D23. On the Friday, I had an appointment in Victoria, so afterwards I went over to Fisherman's Wharf.

A row of interesting floating homes of all different shapes and sizes that are moored along a wharf. At the left-hand end of the row is a gift shop. This area receives lots of visitors, particularly when the weather is pleasant. In the foreground is a small area of open water with ripples from a duck and the little splashes from raindrops. A view between two floating homes across the gap between adjacent wharves. One of the homes on the other side is a B&B, and next to it is one of the water taxis that operate within Victoria's inner harbour.

This gnarled old tree in the forest has lost most of its bark. The branches are twisted and bent into interesting contortions, and the roots are exposed. The surrounding forest floor is covered in low plants that are covered in leaves.

I bought a combined laser rangefinder and exposure meter. It is an L.D. Meter from CHI. Here it is on my Zeiss Ikon Nettar 517/16. The meter works well, but the red laser dot can be hard to see, especially in bright light. It may be out of place on a 70 approx. year-old camera. #folderweek

The square upper corner of a building with vertical metal siding. Lines from a nearby power pole enter the photograph from the top left and then connect into two flexible conduits running vertically down the side of the building. Loops in the wires cast interesting shadows on the wall.

An old bicycle leaning against a fence made from bamboo canes. The bottom of the wheels are partially covered in dead leaves. The front and rear baskets on the bike contain plants, some of which are flowering. Behind the fence is a garden centre. The same scene as in the first photograph, except now the bicycle is partially overgrown with grasses and other plants. Also, the rear basket is missing.

My last roll of ADOX Silvermax 100, which was discontinued in '21. I exposed a few frames at a time while it sat in my Pentax Spotmatic F for months. Finally finished the roll last weekend and developed it in ADOX FX-39 II.

Forged is an axe throwing venue in Victoria, British Columbia. Their neon sign is attached to an adjacent brick building with an arrow pointing to the entrance down an alleyway. Two people are enjoying the sunshine while sitting on a bench. One of them is eating from a takeaway food container. Behind the bench is an old brick and stone building with a staircase leading up and out at the top of the photograph. A rope with triangular flags attached loops down from a walkway above, and a couple of trees frame the scene on the left and right. The location is Market Square in Victoria, British Columbia. An e-bike rental store with bikes attached to a rack to the left of the photograph. The doorway into the store is to the right of the centre with an interesting old-style circular sign above. The name of the business is Vintage Iron. Either side of the doorway is a couple of windows, one displaying an open sign. This is an old building with stone walls. Behind the bike rack is an "H" shaped black metal reinforcement to help maintain the stability of the wall. The location is Market Square in Victoria, British Columbia. A photograph of driftwood on a beach with forest behind. Most of the trees are covered in lush growth, while there are some dead branches hanging down from the tree in the centre of the scene. The dead branches are weathered and bleached. They contrast with the much darker tones of the other trees.

A seed head from a plant that I cannot identify against a distinctly out-of-focus background. Part of the seed head is also out of focus and a little blurred. For me, these apparent faults add to, rather than detract from, the appeal of the photograph.

From my first roll of Kentmere 200 dev in ADOX FX39 II. I was going to use D23, but thought two firsts would not be a good idea. Camera: Mamiya C330f, 80mm f2.8. I will reserve my final opinion until I have used the film under various lighting conditions. OK so far. #believeinfilm #filmphotography
