Wildlife ecologist, adaptation scientist, complex adaptive systems modeler, Cassandra-type prophet (apparently), avid gardener and hiker. Personal account; views are my own.
Seen while on a walk today. Checked Google Maps. This is half a mile from railroad tracks.

This is my first ever creation using crochet. Taught myself this week while recovering from minor surgery. Tied it off this morning. It is a coral aka hyperbolic geometric surface.

Visited Peninsula Point lighthouse at the north end of Green Bay. Cool spiral stairs. Built in 1865.

I made loose leaf tea, as I have done several times a day for the last couple of years. Today it is white tiramisu, water 180F, and steeped 2 minutes.

Did a 1 mile segment of the NCT, which stretches from upstate NY to North Dakota.

Thinking of Jane Goodall and her influence on my career and thinking as a wildlife professional. I have 1000+ books in my personal library, but only 32 on the shelves on my desktop. Jane authored two of those, both with "hope" in the title. She taught me hope backed by conviction and hard work.

A couple pictures from the garden this summer. Still blooming despite the drought.

I do not walk fast. I am proud of this fact. However, this fellow outdid me today in his leisurely stroll down the local path along the Muskegon River.

Slow down
You move too fast
You've got to make the moment last
Just grazing bacteria of the bike trail
And feeling goo-veeee

It is the time of year again. The morning sun is low in the east. Shadows lengthen. The all seeing eye casts its searching vision across the land.

Went u-pick apple picking, and found this beauty. I think it is a yellow garden spider. I am sure this spider has eaten many many flies that would have otherwise damaged the fresh apples my wife and I picked. A wild friend. Scary looking, but so are many of my friends.

Visiting Madison WI and exploring new restaurants. Tried this one. Wait staff handed us two menus, the regular and the brunch menu, then apologized that pretty much everything on the regular menu was sold out because fans from the Wierd Al concert last night cleaned them out. Brunch was 💯!

Whenever I pick up a pizza from our local pizza place, I tell them my name and they ring up my pizza. On Friday I neglected to mention my name, and the cashier pulled up my order. They know me. I am officially "a regular" somewhere! Which is great, but also a little worrying. I eat how much pizza?

Got lots of pretty scenery pictures, but this picture reminded me to laugh.

I would like everyone to keep repeating the misinformation about Michigan and how unpleasant life is here... so hopefully my family and I can continue to enjoy these kinds of Labor Day weekend crowds on a state park beach. (Friends of Mr. Durham, of course, are welcome to visit. It'll be our secret)

Earlier this week I was watering my garden and saw a rabbit, eating my garden plants. Sprayed it with the hose. The rabbit hid under a rose. I sprayed under the rose, and the rabbit shot around the corner and knocked over this bucket. I may have discovered a new hobby/sport: bunny bowling.

I found this yellow myxomycete growing on my mulch pile. Myxomycetes are one of my favorite creatures. Not animal, plant, or fungi. They are there own small obscure kingdom. They are amoeba/blobs that eat bacteria. This species is common on mulch, fades to brown spores during the day.

Quick 3-day car camping getaway at Munoscong State Forest campground. Scored a spacious riverside site, mid-afternoon on a Friday in northern Michigan. Reviews said it was too quiet, boring, with nothing fun nearby. Perfect!

Found a new hiking spot at an Ottawa County park called Rosy Mound. It was a rainy morning, so we had it almost entirely to ourselves. Perfect mix of hiking through woods and dunes to a Great Lakes beach.
