By 'flavour' I mean colourful/interesting/quirky characters, a strong sense of mood, something unusual different about the settings, etc. Just something that adds flavour to the otherwise familiar ingredients.

I get that. Despite my snarky review, it's far from the worst film I've watched. Technical production was pretty good but it was bland and formulaic. I felt it needed more flavour. I've seen worse acted and shot movies, but thought better of them because they had more flavour.
