i think one reason that transphobia is such a problem in the UK is that the UK feminist movement is much more conservative and hierarchical than the american one, because it is much whiter never had the same reckoning with racism that american feminism was dealing with in the 60s and 70s

the idea that you can change which of those categories you belong to is much, much more threatening to the right wing project than the idea that the two categories should be more equal. the latter can be fought; the former makes the entire project completely untenable.

the reason transphobia is so uniquely virulent is pretty straightforward. right wing politics is, at its core, about the preservation and enforcement of traditional hierarchies, and the most basic hierarchy of all is “men over women.”

yeah, i mean, checks with his name on them went out to everyone, i don’t know what else you want. as unfair as it is i think it’s pretty clear in the data at this point that voters gave him a mulligan on all the COVID related disruptions.

one of the hardest things for some liberal pundits (not you obvs) to understand is that COVID probably helped trump - people didn’t blame him for the pandemic but did credit him for the recovery efforts, and they also blamed dems for various unpopular (but necessary) pandemic control measures
